Mark Rainsley lives and works in Dorset. As a keen trail runner (and also kayaker, surfer and mountain biker), he has explored every corner of the wild and wonderful South West, in all its moods and seasons. He has been known to survive the occasional ultra-marathon, but largely he runs sensible distances, purely for the joy of exploring the landscape.
Mark took on the challenge of researching the South West’s trail running potential as a means of recovering physically and mentally from major surgery to correct a genetic heart defect. He hopes that this book demonstrates that these wonderful places are accessible to all runners, and that this book offers useful information and maybe even a bit of inspiration.

This is a must have for anyone who loves to run off road. Some fantastic routes with varying degrees of difficulty to suit all abilities. I like that everything is considered in the route plans from driving directions, to a rating system for navigation, terrain and wet feet! Also some local history and nearest pubs or cafes. Beautiful photography, easy to follow route discriptions and maps, I am looking forward to completing more of these trail runs.

As an avid South West trail runner this book has been a real eye opener to the many new adventures out there to explore. Mark has covered in depth many areas I didn’t know were accessible, given accurate accounts of distance, terrains, elevation and clear inviting photographs.
This book would also benefit walkers/ramblers.
As the runs are graded it also enables runners to build on their stamina and skills during the courses they choose.
This book has been carefully put together, and you can sense that Mark has dedicated his time and energy into making this the best guide to South West trail running you’ll ever need.
A useful guide to take with you on your journey around the South West, expertly written and compiled. Thank you Mark.
Happy trail running.🏃

What I like about this book is the varied runs that are in it. I don’t run much further than 20 km / half marathon most of the time and there are short and long runs in this book.
The maps are good detailed information and the text is easy to read… Looking forward to getting out more on the trails…

This is a great book for all levels. Managed to do a few trails now, and it’s really well written, to let you know what to expect. The routes are varied in ability and length. Great way to see different parts of the country that you’d normally shy away from, as you don’t know where you’re going. Looking forward to any new additions. A must have for any keen, or budding trail runner.
